Westland Farrier Services is owned and operated by Jamie Westland Wandell. Jamie has been a practicing farrier since 2000. She first began her path apprenticing under her father and later a few other farriers. She attended Heartland Farrier School for advanced Blacksmithing. At the same time she attended college, first community college then Northern Illinois university where she studies psychology and sociology. However her true passion is horses so she has dedicated her life to being a farrier.
Jamie has spent countless hours education herself on the different types of corrective shoeing and she communicates well with veterinarians
Jamie has spent her entire life surrounded by horses. She has been a dedicated farrier since 2000, working in northern Illinois. Jamie is a third generation farrier, who believes in continued education. Her dedication to her trade has been acknowledged most recently by the daily Herald, January 2016 and the American Farrier Journal the same month.
At the present time her horse/best friend is named Mae. Mae and Jamie mostly enjoy early morning arena work at home and trail rides on the weekends with the occasional Hunter Pace. They also enjoy Taking lesson together and improving their growing friendship.
Many people are unaware of the benefit of having a farrier that also loves to ride. Farriers that ride understand the feel of the movement of the horse and can better understand what a client is trying to explain.
Here is another link to better explain those benefits:
